Without a shadow of a doubt, Novak Djokovic is the best tennis player on the planet. Over the last decade or so, tennis fans have experienced a gradual shift from the Roger Federer-Rafael Nadal dominated era and it’s now the Serbian’s time to shine at the summit of the tennis world. While Andy Murray is a more than competent player, he’s simply not as consistent or talented as Djokovic.
Djokovic has won ten of the last 20 major tournaments – a statistic that supports his dominance in recent times. Many believe that Djokovic could well be the best tennis player of all-time and he’s certainly up there. While tennis fans have been spoilt with Federer, Nadal and Djokovic, it certainly would have been very interesting to see both Federer and Djokovic compete against one another in their prime years.
Last year, Djokovic was supreme on the grass court as he cruised to a third Wimbledon title – his second in successive years. The Serbian loves the hard court but his ability to adapt to both the grass and clay court is unrivalled. Djokovic’s pace across the court gives him a distinct advantage over his opponents, especially the ageing Federer and Nadal. In fact, it’s only really Andy Murray who can match Djokovic for stamina around the court.
This summer, Murray may be the only man who can challenge Djokovic. The Briton will have the full support of his home crowd but Djokovic is the favourite Wimbledon bet at the moment at EVS with Coral. The Serbian is bang in form and defeated Murray in January’s Australian Open final. In fact, Djokovic has an exceptional record against Murray but the Brit has won both of their meetings on grass.
Before Wimbledon, the two may clash in the French Open. Djokovic is hunting all four Grand Slam titles but has never won at Roland Garros before. It wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see the two best players in the world collide and at the time of writing, Coral are offering 4/6 on Djokovic winning a maiden French Open title. Once the clay season is over, all eyes will turn to Wimbledon and what is widely regarded as the most prestigious event on the calendar.
So, will Djokovic win a third successive Wimbledon crown or is this Andy Murray’s year again? Well, it’s hard to see the Serbian losing – especially if he wins the French Open. Djokovic is fully focused on enhancing his legacy as one of the greatest players of all-time and holding all four Grand Slam titles would certainly do that. Murray is capable but Djokovic is just too good and should win yet another major tournament.
