A new format, a unique event
In 2019, the Davis Cup unveiled a new competition format, with a round of Qualifiers in February seeing nations compete for a place at the all-new Davis Cup by Rakuten Madrid Finals. This month, for the first time in history, the 18-best national teams will meet in one city over one week to fight for the Davis Cup title.
The 18 teams are split into six groups of three and compete in a round-robin format from Monday 18 to Thursday 21 November. The top team in each group, plus the two best-performing runners-up will qualify for the quarter-finals, which take place on Thursday 21-Friday 22 November, with winners progressing to the semi-finals and eventually the Final on Saturday 23-Sunday 24 November.
Of the 18 teams, four qualified automatically after strong performances in 2018 (Croatia, France, Spain and USA), two were awarded wild cards (Argentina and Great Britain) and the remaining 12 secured their places after victory in the Qualifiers in February (Belgium, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Germany, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Netherlands, Russia and Serbia).
Tickets remain on sale at www.daviscupfinals.com, with prices starting at €25 for a morning or evening session and discounted rates for children.
