As we head towards the summer, sporting thoughts start to turn to who could be the Wimbledon singles champion of 2015. The field in both the men’s and women’s tournament appears to be stronger than ever before, so predicting who could be victorious is not that easy. However, if we look at not only current form, but previous Wimbledon experiences perhaps we can indeed predict who you will be watching should you manage to get Wimbledon final tickets.
Djokovic or Murray
If we look at the men’s tournament, then we have to look at the big four. Of course Djokovic is the favorite as he has been in stunning form so far this year and he always turns up at the big tournaments. That is why he is in the region of 13/8 right now whilst the second favorite, Andy Murray, is at 7/2.
The only problem here is that a less than favorable draw could pit the two of them together in the semi-finals and that would be a shame as the two of them have come up with some stunning finals and of course Murray defeated Djokovic to win the Wimbledon crown in 2013.
Apart from those two you can never forget about Federer and Nadal. Federer is the absolute King of grass and even though he is the oldest of the big four he still has a lot of fight in him and his ability to read the game is second to none. Nadal is currently listed at 9/1, but the biggest question surrounding him is always going to be his body. Can it stand up to the rigours or will he suffer from some niggle that will hamper him?
While you are more than likely going to see a final that has two out of those four, it is worth looking at a few others that could spring a surprise and make that breakthrough. The likes of Berdych always promises to do well and he certainly has a good game for grass and who could forget the strides made by Dimitrov last year. However, they will certainly need to perform well on the day to get to the final and winning it may very well still be a step too far.
Female favorites
If we then move to the women you can pretty much guarantee that Serena Williams will be in the final unless she suddenly forgets how to play tennis. She is currently at 13/8 to win and you will get even shorter odds of her being in the final.
Out of the rest it is Kvitova who is being tipped as the second favorite at 9/2 closely followed by Sharapova at 8/1 and to be honest out of the two it is likely to be Sharapova who would stand the best change of upstaging Williams. However, she is also known for having a shocking game from time to time and she will have to hope it does not happen at Wimbledon this year.
You might also be tempted into looking at the likes of Bouchard and Azarenka at 16/1 and Lisicki at 22/1 is a great price for somebody who is always a danger on grass. However, to give yourself a better chance do consider checking out the odds on them getting to the final rather than winning it as it really is that difficult to see past Williams.
