After Stefanos Tsitipas’ shocking first round defeat, oddsmakers have scrambled to figure out who could win the now wide open quarter. In another shocker, they’ve made Andy Murray the favorite.
Murray has been given +375 odds, or an implied 21.1% chance to reach the Wimbledon semi-final. He’s not alone at the top though. 8th seed Roberto Bautista Agut is given +500 odds, or an implied 16.7% chance to win the quarter. 10th seed Denis Shapovalov is given +550 odds, or an implied 15.4% chance. Even Karen Khachanov is given +700 odds, or an implied 12.5% chance to escape the quarter.
Frances Tiafoe, who pulled the biggest upset of the first week, is the fifth favorite to come out of the quarter. The unseeded American is given +1400 odds, or a 6.7% chance. The only other surviving American in the quarter, Sebastian Korda, is given +1600 odds.
Quote from OddsChecker spokesman Kyle Newman, “Wimbledon is so often a place for reigning Kings. The last time a non-seeded player reached a semi-final at Wimbledon was 2008 when Marat Safin and Rainer Schuttler both reached the semis. So, it’s odd that oddsmakers would put an unseeded player as their favorite and another in the top-5. Yet, that’s how wide open his draw has become without the World #4 in it.”
