After two retirements and a two year ban for testing positive for cocaine, tennis legend Martina Hingis still isn’t ready to walk away for good.
The Associated Press reported that World Team Tennis founder Billie Jean King said Hingis is “testing the waters” this summer for a doubles-only comeback to the WTA Tour.
Hingis is scheduled to compete in World Team Tennis this July, playing 14 matches for the New York Buzz. In addition to playing exhibition singles matches against Olga Savchuk and Michaela Krajicek at the Nottingham Masters event this week, Hingis is also scheduled to pair up with Anna Kournikova in the legends doubles event at Wimbledon.
Hingis, 29, is a winner of nine Grand Slam women’s doubles titles and one mixed doubles title, and completed a calendar slam in 1998, winning all four majors. She also held the No. 1 doubles ranking for a period of 35 weeks. Her last title came at Doha in 2007 with Maria Kirilenko.
