Tennis Events
- Wimbledon
The Wimbledon Championship is one of the four-yearly grand slam competitions and the only one still played on a grass court. Its location is in London, England. Athletes from Russia and Belarus have been banned from participating due to the current political situation. The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) have stripped the competition of ranking points. Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan won the women’s singles title and Novak Djokovic of Serbia won the men’s singles title.
- Swedish Open
The Swedish Open, also known as the Nordea Open, is a yearly ATP 250 and WTA 125 tennis tournament held in Bastad, Sweden. It is held on a clay surface.. The competition began in 1948 and was initially called the International Swedish Hard Court Championships. Some of the past winners include notable names like Rafael Nadal, David Ferrer, and Bjorn Borg. The 2022 singles champion was Francisco Cerundolo of Argentina.
- Infosys Hall of Fame Open
The Hall of Fame Open competition will be held on a grass surface in Newport, Rhode Island. It was be played alongside the Swedish Open this year. It is the only grass court tournament played outside Europe. The competition has been in existence since 1976. It is usually hosted a week after Wimbledon to allow top-ranked players to participate. Max Cressy of the United States won the title in 2022.
- Croatia Open
Croatia Open is part of the ATP’s 250 series tours. It is the oldest tennis tournament in Croatia. The competition began as far back as 1990 when Croatia was still a part of Yugoslavia, and was formerly known as the Yugoslavia Open. The tournament is held annually and is exclusive to men. It will last from July 22nd to July 31st and it will be played on a clay surface in Umag, Croatia.
- Hamburg European Open
Before 2021, this event was exclusive to men. The women’s competition was held separately and under several sponsorship names. However, in 2021, it became a part of the WTA 250 series. The competition was formerly known as the German Open Tennis Championships when it was founded in 1892 and was exclusive to German and Austrian players until 1896. It will be held on a clay surface from July 16th to July 24th in Hamburg, Germany.
