Maria Sharapova is not only winning matches in Paris, her Eiffel Tower-inspired dress is hands down the best outfit on the red clay of Roland Garros. Nike does theme dresses for her for all the Grand Slams, and frankly, when I heard about this one, I was a bit worried. I still had visions of the awful peacock thing she wore in Australia, and the “swan” dress at Wimbledon a few years ago..both hugely unattractive. You’d think with her looks and body she’d look great in anything … not so.
However, this new one is a winner. I love the subtlety. If you didn’t know what it represents you wouldn’t guess. Yellow ribbons criss-cross around her upper body like the iron lattice-work of the famous Paris landmark. Very cool. The double-layered skirt with the sheer overlay moves beautifully, and I love the uneven hemline. Again, subtle, definitely there but not shouting at you. Nice. I’m wondering if I can take a photo with me to Shanghai and get something similar in a street length dress made … they can make anything for a great price.
Whoever designed this at Nike should get an award for finally coming up with a great attractive dress for the tall Russian. I also approve of the shoes with yellow trim. I scolded them at the US Open for putting her in a black cocktail outfit and white shoes. They really go it right here in the fashion capital.
Then there are the earrings. Wow, gorgeous, rose cut diamonds in different sizes set in platinum..fabulous.. but don’t get too jealous girls, they are just on loan from Tiffany. She has to give them back after the tournament. She said that she’d like to keep them as they are one of her favorites, but they must be returned. C’mon Maria.. with your income I’m sure you can afford to buy them .. or how about your fiance Laker Sasha Vujacic.. bet he could pop for a pair of diamond earrings even if the Lakers didn’t win finals this year. Nope, I won’t shed even one tear for you having to return those earrings and pick up another pair for Wimbledon.
And while we are talking fashion .. Novak Djokovic abandoned his Man in Black outfit and donned the Good Guy all white today. His match with Juan Martin del Potro was called for darkness last night, so they finished today. It took the Serb four sets to prevail, but there was little doubt in anyones mind that he was going to win.
After the last ball was hit, and DJ did his celebration, he and del Po had a warm embrace at the net … anyone know if they are big time friends? I’ve been asking everyone but no one has an answer. Just wondering because of the hug and apparent warm words at the net. Was Novak trying to make del Potro feel better for whipping him? Oh well, the good thing is, it made a very nice photos even if I don’t know the meaning or motivation.
