Regarding breakfast, I forgot to mention yesterday, beans on toast. Yes I said beans on toast, canned baked beans served on toast, at big breakfast favorite here. Then for lunch try the British classic, Chips Butty, Chips (thick French Fries) on white bread with mayonnaise and ketchup. I opted out for English and went for a French style breakfast at Le Pain Quotidien. They have the best walnut bread ever and everything is made with organic flour. Very “un-British.”
I could go on ragging of the British diet for a long time, but you probably want to know about the women’s final. You’ve gotta love Serena Williams. From the Fuchsia knickers to her jeweled nails, she never fails to give us something to write about and great photos. There was no doubt in anyone’s mind that she was going to win pretty easily — and she didn’t disappoint.
The world No. 1 overpowered every opponent without dropping a set, using huge serves and martial arts screams. The truth is, those screams are more than a little annoying, and actually pretty intimidating (I wouldn’t want to get her mad at me) but she out-classed Vera Zvonareva so completely that she didn’t need to use scare tactics in the final.
As for breakfast the word is that, no, Serena doesn’t indulge in the English breakfast, but eats a healthy diet with fruit in the morning.
Rafael Nadal on the other hand likes toast with Nutella and Orange Juice for his morning wake up. Not a great way to start the day, but goes healthy at lunch with grilled Salmon and noodles, and pasta with shrimp in the evening. The gorgeous Spaniard can also cook! He said, “I like to cook every day. I love eating seafood. I wouldn’t say that I’m a good cook, just normal. Toni, (his uncle and coach) never cooks, but sometimes he does the washing-up,” he added, “I think that my cooking is better than the food in the players’ restaurant at Wimbledon, that’s for sure.”
Wow, handsome, nice, talented, unpretentious and can cook! No wonder women are mad for him!
Tomorrow we’ll see if the carbo loading will see him through to another Wimbledon title.
Have you noticed how much I seem to have been talking about food? Do you get the impression that I’ve been dying for a good meal? Well, I’m thanking Serena for making her match short and sweet so I can get out of here early. I am SO looking forward to dinner with a friend.
I just heard on TV Yaroslava Shvedova say to her doubles partner, Vania King, “My god, we’ve won Wimbledon.” They are overjoyed. I’m happy for them, and now happily, I’ll be heading out.
