It was fascinating to see Richard Gasquet during the French Open quickly unwrap and unwrap his grip tap on every changeover – a routine that he is known for. He is stricken with sweaty hands, as many people are.
Gasquet’s routine reminded me of the late, great Vitas Gerulaitis, who used to frantically wrap and unwrap gauze tape on every changeover during his career in the 1970s and 1980s. Do you remember Ivan Lendl during the 1980s using saw dust that he kept in his left pocket of his tennis shorts?
I was recently introduced to an amazing product to help tennis players – and others – who are stricken with overly sweaty hands. It’s called Carpe Lotion.
The product was created by college students Kasper Kubica of Duke and David Spratte from UNC, who were both fed up with their sweaty hands. They reached out to me and supported the recent Mardy Fish Children’s Foundation Tennis Championships, the $10,000 USTA Pro Circuit tennis tournament in Vero Beach, Florida where I served as co-tournament director.
Using the product while playing in the hot and humid conditions in Florida, it definitely gives you a tacky feel that helps your grip. I even tried it on the golf course during a sweltering day and it worked like a charm.
Their PR wordage is as follows “Carpe Lotion is the most effective and comfortable solution to sweaty hands available – perfect for anyone with constant or situational sweaty hands. Whether you’re playing sports, lifting weights, rock-climbing, gaming, playing music, interviewing, going on dates, hunting, wearing prosthetic limbs, or any other activity, sweaty hands will be the last of your worries. With Carpe, you can be confident that your hands will stay sweat free when it matters most. Carpe moisturizes and keeps the skin healthy, leaving a soothing Eucalyptus scent. By using the strongest proven ingredients, Carpe guarantees the best possible sweat reduction. Leaving no residue, Carpe ensures that you’ll never feel embarrassed about the state of your palms.”
