The incredible win by Dan Evans of Great Britain over Russia’s Karen Khachanov in five hours and 35 minutes in the first round of the 2024 US Open tops the list of longest matches in US Open history.
The 6-7(8), 7-6(2) 7-6(4), 4-6, 6-4 victory for Evans was nine minutes longer than the previous longest match at the U.S. Open which was Stefan Edberg’s SCORE win over Michael Chang in the 1992 semifinals, played in Louis Armstrong Stadium
Evan crawled back into the match after trailing 0-4 in the fifth set, winning the last six games of the match. The atmosphere is described in the New York Times here: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5727605/2024/08/27/us-open-longest-match-tennis-evans-khachanov
Said Evans of the epic, “it’s just a crazy, crazy match. It’s one I’ll remember obviously forever.”
