A total of 43Australians will compete at the 138th edition of Wimbledon,with qualifying beginning today at Roehampton.
Sixteen Aussies are vying for a coveted main draw spot, led by world No.102 Tristan Schoolkate who is hoping to make his Wimbledon main draw debut. He will be joined by Li Tu, James McCabe, Alex Bolt, Jason Kubler and Omar Jasika. On the women’s side, 10 Australians will contest qualifying, including seeds Talia Gibson and Priscilla Hon, alongside Daria Saville, Maddison Inglis, Destanee Aiava, Taylah Preston and Emerson Jones. At just 16, Jones could become the youngest Aussie woman since Ash Barty in 2012 to reach the main draw.
Thirteen Aussies have direct entry into the main draw, commencing Monday 30 June.
World No.11 Alex de Minaur headlines the men’s field, joined by Alexei Popyrin, Jordan Thompson, Aleksandar Vukic, Rinky Hijikata, Chris O’Connell, Adam Walton and James Duckworth. In the women’s draw, Daria Kasatkina, Kimberly Birrell, Maya Joint, Ajla Tomljanovic and Olivia Gadecki will fly the flag, with Birrell and Joint both making their Wimbledon main draw debuts. Eleven Australians will contest the men’s and women’s doubles competition led by Jordan Thompson, John Peers, Matt Ebden and Ellen Perez.
Australia will be strongly represented in the juniors, with seven players entered in the Wimbledon Junior Championships, including world No.1 Emerson Jones, Tahlia Kokkinis and Cruz Hewitt.Ty Host, Renee Alame, Alana Subasic and Ava Beck will contest junior qualifying from 3 July. Young rising stars Novak Palombo, 12, and Ceressa Jackson, 14, have been selected to compete in Wimbledon’s 14-and-under Championships from 10-13 July. Wimbledon will be broadcast live on Channel Nine and Stan Sport.
