Draper withdrew from the Mubadala DC Open, following a left arm injury. He was scheduled to play in the first-round against American Alex Michelson. He will be replaced by lucky loser Mackenzie McDonald.
Although Draper just said he felt “physically really good” going into the tournament, his bone bruising struggles continue. Draper hasn’t been physically there since nearly a year ago now, when he pulled out of the U.S. Open second round. This injury has left Draper out and frustrated, having to miss extensive stretches of the ATP tour and multiple high-profile tournaments.
McDonald lost in straight sets to fellow American Trevor Svajda in qualifying (4-6,4-6) but now prepares to capitalize on a main draw opportunity at the ATP 500 event.
