The Surprising Tennis Player Whose Retirement Saddened Fans The Most

Data shows that Argentinian player, Juan Martin Del Potro’s retirement hit fan’s the hardest back in February 2022, with 89% of online reactions towards news related to his retirement being ‘sad’. Surprisingly, the Swiss international UK’s most popular tennis player, Roger Federer, only ranks 10th on the list, with a total of just 32% online reactions categorising as ‘sad’.

Data shows that only 21% of tennis fans are reportedly ‘sad’ about the prospect of Andy Murray retiring  

The study also analysed the ‘sad’ reactions of any tennis players that are likely to retire in 2024.

The results show that Stan Wawrinka is the player most fans are sad to see potentially retire this year, ranking 4th on the list with 53% of reactions being ‘sad’. 

Rafael Nadal ranks 9th (33%), whilst Andy Murray ranks 14th in the list of the players potentially retiring, with 21% of fans having a ‘sad’ reaction to the prospect of it happening.

Venus Williams is the tennis player that fan’s apparently care least about potentially retiring, with only 12% of fans showing a ‘sad’ reaction to announcements relating to this.
